Cathay Pacific Cargo has started using Envirotainer's Releye RLP temperature-controlled container.
The carrier said it is the first in Asia to use the pharma solution.
According to Envirotainer, the LD11-size container's air flow technology enables temperature stability and it was designed to meet shippers’ requests for greater load flexibility.
It fits three Euro pallets (or two-US pallets), filling a gap between the larger RAP and smaller RKN-size containers to enable mixing and matching of pallet sizes.
The unit uses rechargeable batteries to power its electric heating and compressor cooling system, which can be controlled from an external panel. A single battery charge will power the system for over 170 hours. It also offers fully integrated live monitoring.
Cathay’s general manager of cargo service delivery Frosti Lau said: “It will allow us to offer yet more choice to our customers for transporting temperature-sensitive shipments. This is especially important at this moment, when vaccines and other life-saving pharmaceutical shipments are in such critical demand in different parts of the world. The advanced cool-chain technology that has gone into the design of the container is an example of the innovation that will help move our industry forward.”
Envirotainer head of global key accounts airlines Don Harrison added: “Cathay Pacific Cargo is a long-term partner to Envirotainer, and I’m thrilled that it is the first airline in Asia-Pacific to qualify our latest innovation, the new Releye RLP container. Cathay Pacific Cargo’s extensive network and Pharma Lift product will continue to be an asset to pharma shippers globally; now with the inclusion of the Releye RLP, its impact will be even greater.”
